The Tintype Traveler is a vintage caravan that is being converted into a custom-designed darkroom. The caravan has been created to allow photographers to have a portable darkroom for traditional photographic processes on location, and as a mobile darkroom for small-group workshops.
The caravan is being lovingly converted as a cosy, professional workspace. It will have effective safe-light and ventilation conditions, air-conditioning & heating, and plenty of workspace for a range of traditional techniques. The Tintype Traveller lives at Cog Creative Space in Norwood, Adelaide, where it will provide an on-site darkroom for the 6 resident photographers at the studio. It can also be hired by visiting photographers as required.
The caravan can be hired for all kinds of occasions:
The Shimmer Photography Biennale 2016 is proud to be hosting The Tintype Traveller for this year’s workshop program. This unique little caravan will be at a variety of locations across the festival as the site for some of the alternative and traditional-process techniques.
Check our events page for details about these and other workshops.
We have been approached by a number of events and schools and will be appearing about the place in late 2016
Our Pozible campaign was a huge success and we have been able to afford the primary conversion of the caravan thanks to our generous supporters, who got a range of great rewards for their love of our project.
We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, who have put in some extra cash to help us get the darkroom on the road and we couldn’t have done it without them. Thanks very much to:
